Dr. Amy Drendel and her colleagues are assessing the effectiveness and validity of the pain scale and the educational comic through a number of grant-funded research projects. The objective is to validate this novel pediatric pain assessment scale. Most recently, Dr. Drendel conducted a prospective observational study of children ages 3-18 years with acute pain. Pain severity reported with the novel scale was compared to the gold standard Faces Pain Scale –Revised. Children also reported their desire for pain treatment and response to analgesics.
